SIMPLE NETBALL RULES

  • 7 players take the court at any time.
  • All players wear bibs, which show their playing positions and play in a specified area.

DESCRIPTION

WHAT HAPPENS

1. Footwork

When a player has possession of the ball, that player must keep her first grounded foot as the pivot foot.

If a player lands on 2 feet, it may be re-grounded any number of times. The pivot foot may be lifted but not be re-grounded until the ball has been passed or shot.

Free pass to opposition where infringement occurred.

2. Passing length and time

The ball must be caught or touched in each third as it moves through the court. The Centre pass (which restarts play after a goal is scored) must be touched in the Centre third.

The ball must be passed within three seconds.

3. Contact

A player may not contact the opponent, when they are in possession of the ball or not.

Penalty pass – the infringer to stand beside the passer and not take part in play until the ball is released.

4. Obstruction

A player must be 0.9m from where the opponent has landed with the ball.

A player must not defend an opponent who has not got the ball, with outstretched arms, if they are within 0.9m.

5. Ball out of court

A thrown in taken by the opposing team from behind the line where the ball went out.

Throw in to non-offending team.

6. Scoring

Only GS and GA may score goals. A shot for goal must be taken from inside the goal circle. All successful shots are worth 1 point.

After a goal is scored the game is restarted with a centre pass.

7. Centre pass

The Centre pass alternates between the teams, regardless of who has scored the goal.

Players go back to their starting positions. The whistle restarts play.
